Doctors

We are able to see all patients with all types of health problems and provide additional services including:

  • Minor Surgery, to remove skin tags and cysts
  • ​Joint injections
  • ​Contraceptive services – coil, implant fitting and removal
  • ​Help with chronic illnesses 

DR CUMMINGS (Partner)

Dr Kathryn Cummings is a GP partner and has a special interest in respiratory medicine and looking after patients with breathing problems like asthma and COPD. She also has an interest in child health.

DR ALI (Partner)

Dr Shazia Ali is a GP partner who has a special interest in women’s health, she fits contraceptive implants and coils and is also our clinical research lead.

DR FOWLER

Dr Andrew Fowler is one of our salaried GP’s and is the clinical lead for diabetes at Honley Surgery.

He has a specialist interest in medical education, training medical students, junior doctors and also undertakes minor surgery.

DR FRAIN

Dr Frain is a salaried GP who has a specialist interest in medical education.

Advanced Nurse Practitioners

Our advanced Nurse Practitioners are able to see all health problems and offer special services including:

  • Minor Surgery, to remove skin tags and cysts
  • ​Help with chronic illnesses 
  • ​Acupuncture

SHAHZAD LOHAN (PARTNER) – Advanced Clinical Practitioner Pharmacist

Mr Lohan became a partner of Honley Surgery in 2022, he has been a pharmacist for over 14 years, and an Advanced Clinical Practitioner for over 4 years. He is also the PCN Lead Clinical Pharmacist for The Valleys PCN.

He has special interests in diabetes, asthma, COPD, and in the training of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

VIRGINIA ROBERTS – Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Virginia has been an Advanced Clinical Practitioner for over 10 years.

She can perform acupuncture for eligible patients.

SCOTT HUTCHINSON – Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Scott has been an Advanced Clinical Practitioner for over 10 years.

He works with the university of Teeside to train Advanced Clinical Practitioners and also performs minor surgery.

DEBORAH RATTIGAN – Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Deborah is from both a Nursing and Paramedic background and has been working as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner for the last 2 years.

SERENA ASLAM-ALI – Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Serena is an experienced nurse of over 20 years and has been working as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner for the last 3 years.

DEBBIE DYSON

LEAD PRACTICE NURSE

Debbie Dyson is our lead nurse who offers full sexual health screening alongside her normal nursing duties.

She is a nurse prescriber and can provide advice on many minor illnesses.

Administrative Staff

Our practice management team works to help ensure we can deliver our clinical services with ease. The team work to help the surgery find new more efficient ways of working.

Practice/Business Manager

Mrs Tina Walsh is our Practice Manager and has been at Honley Surgery for over 5 years but has worked in the NHS for over 20 years.

Deputy Practice Manager

Mrs Katie Rousell is our Deputy Practice Manager and has been at Honley Surgery for over 5 years.

She works along side Mrs Walsh to help ensure the practice runs smoothly.

Other Clinical Staff

PHARMACISTS

We have 4 clinical pharmacists who work across The Valleys Primary Care Network. They specialize in structured medication reviews, long term condition advice and medication queries i.e. Side effects and supply issues.

PHLEBOTOMISTS

Honley Surgery has an in house Phlebotomist and a Hospital Phlebotomist visit twice a week to take routine blood samples in addition to the services provided by our nursing and healthcare team.

PERSONALISED CARE TEAM

SOCIAL PRESCRIBING LINK WORKERS

Social Prescribing helps people to improve their health, wellbeing and social welfare by connecting them to services and activities in their local community. To get in touch with your social prescribing link worker please contact your GP surgery.

CARE CO-ORDINATORS

Care Co-ordinator’s work in the community, visiting patients at home. They work with patients who will benefit from support around improving their health and wellbeing and achieve their self-care goals. They work with patients to identify appropriate organisations and services that are available to help them achieve their goals. They will make onward referrals and organise a team of support to help patients better manage their own care and needs.

HEALTH & WELLBEING COACH

Health and Wellbeing Coaches support people over the age of 18. They work within GP surgeries and help patients to take the to improve how they manage their physical and mental health based on what matters to them. Health and Wellbeing coaches can offer support on a 1-1 or group basis, and also facilitate the setting up of peer to peer groups.
