Dear patients,

As you may be aware the NHS is under significant pressure as it enters a second winter during this pandemic.  Here at Honley Surgery we strive to provide the best care possible, and we aim to continue to do so. Given the current pressures faced throughout the NHS we are having to work differently so that we can look after your health needs.

Some of these changes include:

  • Providing your tests results via text message

  • Asking you to complete a health questionnaire via text message so that we can determine your need for an appointment for example an asthma control test or home blood pressure readings

  • Asking for pictures of skin conditions to be sent via text message to the clinician

  • An increased waiting time for follow up appointments. The timeframe will have been determined by the clinician you have seen or has spoken to you

We would be grateful if you could help ease the pressure by:

  • Ordering your prescriptions online and in time before you run out

  • Seeking advice from the community Pharmacist for minor ailments such as coughs, colds, and eye problems like conjunctivitis or by seeking advice online at  or

  • Allowing an adequate timeframe for paperwork to be completed for example fit notes, holiday cancellation forms and letters

  • Allowing our receptionists to direct you to the most appropriate healthcare professional to deal with your query for example medication changes and side effects will be directed to our inhouse pharmacists

  • Please make sure you have taken the opportunity when invited to have your immunisations this winter for example flu, pneumococcal and COVID vaccines

This practice supports the Government’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ campaign for Health Service Staff.  This states that GPs and their staff have a right to care for others without the fear of being attacked or abused.  To successfully provide these services a mutual respect between the staff and patients must be in place.
